Autumn in the Gardens

To many this is a sad time of year signalling the onset of winter , to others it is considered one of the best times of year in the garden. Certainly at Coolcarrigan it can be most spectacular . The weather and the wind can make all the difference in the late autumn.

There are some very special trees and shrubs giving fantastic displays of autumn colour. Acers are probably the best known. We have over 60 different specimens.

Not to be forgotten are all the different Sorbus , Prunus, Euonymus etc that all add to the spectacle. Some of special note are Nyssa Sylvatica and Cercidiphyllum Japonicum. The individual colours can be appreciated close up and all the contrasting shades from a distance.

Aside from the garden there is a large selection of mature trees in the parkland around the house. Autumn colour can be very special with the low winter sun in early autumn mornings or late evenings.
